Here is a contactless (wireless) connector for wiring and cabling in harsh environments from TE Connectivity (formerly Tyco). Called the ARISO contactless connectivity solution, the device uses radio signals in to “jump” from the end of one cable to the end of another. One significant benefit is to reduce maintenance costs.
We keep seeing an infusion of commercial technologies into industrial automation. GE Intelligent Platforms has released Proficy Mobile an iOS and Android app that connects to existing databases in order to bring information to the point where decisions need to be made. Its technologies include HTML5, native app code, SSL and RESTful architectures. This lays the groundwork for future integration to advanced alarming and predictive analytics, both of which are upcoming components GE is planning for 2013 release.
