The OMAC Packaging Workgroup (OPW) will be showcasing the cost benefits of the OMAC Connect-and-Pack standards in its booth at Pack Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV October 5th -7th.  The OPW Booth (C-949) will be located in the Association Pavilion in the Central Hall near registration.

Five different companies (B&R Automation, GE Fanuc, Schneider Electric, Wipro and Invensys Operations Management–Wonderware) will showcase the cost benefits of implementing the OMAC Connect-and-Pack standards on control, HMI, MES and ERP applications. These standards were incorporated into the ISA 88 standards in August, 2008 with the approval of the ISA 88 technical report on Machine and Unit States.  This technical report documented how the OMAC PackML and PackTags followed the ISA 88 standards. A copy of this technical report (ISA-TR88.00.02) is available.

Other OMAC Pack Expo activities include a seminar on Wednesday October 7 from 2 to 4 pm and a user meeting on Tuesday October 6.

I’ll be at ISA Expo, not Pack Expo (they are the same week). I will be interested in reports from Automation World’s Wes Iversen about how the OMAC presence goes. The organization seems to have lost a lot of momentum since its incorporation within ISA. We’ll see if it can regain some of that.
