While I was in California last week, Automation World Managing Editor Wes Iversen went to Charlotte, NC for a conference of Siemens Industry Inc., part of which was devoted to automation–more specifically the process control users group. Not a lot of news to report, but Wes did get an interview with head of the automation division, Raj Batra and recorded part of it as a podcast.

According to Wes, “Batra says that by all indications, the recession is coming to an end, even though unemployment doesn’t reflect that. Among macro industry trends, he cites alternative energy (wind, solar and geothermal); Smart Grid, which ‘will change the way we run plants’; energy efficiency; sustainability; and product lifecycle management. Siemens is well positioned to capitalize upon all of these trends with solutions that can help customers achieve their goals.”
