It seems as if I have not been able to stop for breath for over six weeks. A couple of weeks were personal, but I’ve been to a number of automation-related events. I finally got caught up on Pack Expo. Last week I wrote a couple of times about what occurred at the Profibus International-North America conference. I have one further reflection from that event.

Three speakers went into detail about why they chose Profinet over its rival. One common theme–organization. The PI-NA leadership (ably guided for many years by Mike Bryant and his current group-Marsha, Lynne, Carl, Michael) works hard to provide marketing support, partner recruitment and help on technical issues that all three speakers valued.

I’m in the Chicago area this week. We had meetings regarding our expanded conference–The Automation Conference. It will be held next May (22-23) in the Chicago O’Hare area. We’ve expanded from a focus on Packaging Automation to include also Process Automation and Discrete Automation. Frito-Lay and Boeing have signed on as user sponsors.

Today I drove out to St. Charles–billed as a Chicago suburb but it’s a long way out–to a media event put on by Harting celebrating both its 25 years in North America and the growth of its new manufacturing facility in Elgin. The owners were in from Germany–a delightful family with a great sense of both humor and business.
