BYOD, you mobile workers

The workforce mobility trend meets bring-your-own-device through an “enabler” in GE Intelligent Platforms. The company just released an iPad app that looks pretty interesting. I downloaded the app, but I’m all dressed up with no where to go. Told them that they should set up a demo server so that geeks like me could play with it. I expect iPad apps in manufacturing/production to just keep getting better. When HTML5 use becomes widespread, things could really get cool. Here is my product report.

We are all designers

John Hockenberry’s presentation at TED on intent and design delightfully lays out a great view of design. Recommended for all of us, no matter what we design.

How Not to Suck at Social Media

There’s still time to register for a Webcast from my friend Jon DiPietro that will be a taste of the ISA Marketing and Sales Conference coming up in August in Austin. As a bonus at the conference, I’ll be leading a discussion on the “Voice of the Customer” (aka Vendor Relationship Management). Come and participate.

IOM Goes to Four Conferences

Invensys Operations Management has been trying out an “OpsManage” user conference for a few years as the company has tried to meld from many disparate parts to a new entity. This year executives decided to have several events more specific to the different divisions/technologies.

The North America events kick off with a Foxboro User Group meeting, being held at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston, Mass., August 13 through August 17. A Wonderware and an Avantis meeting will be held October 10 and 11 at the Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim, Calif. An event for users of the company’s Triconex products and solutions will be held October 21 through October 23 at the San Luis Hotel in Galveston, Texas. Additional meetings for users of the company’s SimSci-Esscor and Wonderware IntelaTrac products will be held later this year In Houston, Texas. The venue and dates for those events will be announced in the coming weeks.
